Offsite SEO
As well as the onsite optimisation, a search engine optimisation campaign will mainly consist of building links to your website. By creating links to your website from other sites using the keywords that you want to rank for as the anchor text, you are showing the search engines that you should rank for those terms. SEO services actually consist of many small services and types of link building. Here are a few of the forms link building may take:
- Article Directories - There are thousands of article directories which you are able to submit an article to. In return for adding an article to the directory you are allowed a link or two back to your website. This means that you get a couple of links from a relevent article, using the keywords that you have chosen.
- Guest Blogging - As well as article directories, certain sites allow guest bloggers to post on their websites. This works in a similar way in that you create an article for their site. In return you get a couple of links back again.
- Web 2.0 Sites - There are many sites such as Squidoo, Webs and Blogger which are grouped under the "web 2.0" name. These allow you to create your own blogs and mini sites on other peoples sites. This means that you can create mini sites about your keywords with links back to your keywords.
- Directories - One of the oldest forms of link building. Directories are, as the name suggests, a directory of websites, broken down by categories. Each listing in the site will have a small description about the site and a link to the site.
- Bookmarks - The most popular bookmarking site is Digg, however there are plenty of others. These are sites in which people can bookmark sites they have found interesting and share them with everyone else. Not only can you get backlinks from these sites, but if enough people like your site then you can get a large amount of traffic!
- Blogs & Forums - This involves looking around related blogs and forums and contributing where you can, whether its asking a question, responding to a question or just having a chat. Most blog comments allow you to put a link on your name and most forums allow you to use a signature which may have a link to your website.
- Other - This is by no means a final list of link opportunities, there are plenty more such as social media sites, question and answer sites such as Yahoo answers, photo sites such as flickr and many many more!
